Since the Elbphilharmonie opened in January 2017, the organ in the Great Hall has drawn numerous visitors under its spell. Hardly anyone remains untouched by its sound, which spreads majestically throughout the hall and can not only be heard but also felt in every seat.

Ship Christening

On behalf of the concert hall, title organist Iveta Apkalna took on the honorable task of being godmother of Mein Schiff 6, according to the seafaring tradition, of having the champagne bottle smashed for the baptism at the bow of the new building. At the side of six officers, she initiated this memorable moment on the pool deck with her hand on her heart and spoke the baptismal motto:

“Work and Structure” were the most important factors that sustained Wolfgang Herrndorf during his three-year battle with cancer. In his blog of the same name, the author of the successful novel “Tschick” documented and commented on his experiences and thoughts about death. His digitally written last words, which were also published posthumously as a book, are combined by Ensemble Resonanz with Joseph Haydn’s Passion music “The Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross”. In seven slow and devout movements, Haydn sets Christ’s last words, as handed down in the Gospels, into a poignant musical portrayal. The reading of Herrndorf’s texts is performed by the uniquely intense actress Birgit Minichmayr, who has been active at the Vienna Burgtheater since the late 90s with her distinctive voice.

Since her sensational debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2002, the triumphal march of superstar Anna Netrebko has continued incessantly. Ever since she was voted one of the 100 most influential people worldwide by TIME Magazine in 2007, the opera singer has also been one of the most famous personalities in the world outside of the classical world. Together with her husband Yusif Eyvazov, she can now be seen for the first time in the Elbphilharmonie.

PHILIPPE JORDAN Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris

With his first season as chief conductor of the Orchester de l’Opéra national de Paris in 2009, the Swiss conductor Philippe Jordan put Wagner’s music on the program, including his famous “Ring des Nibelungen”. A CD with excerpts from the »Ring«, which was made with the Wagner singer Nina Stemme, is evidence of this. With her, Jordan and the Orchester de l’Opéra national de Paris are making their debut at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie – with Wagner, of course, and with suites from Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet”.

Concept

I work closely with directors, costume designers, producers, and actors/singers/dancers to conceptualize and define the desired look for each character.

Based on this, my team and I must be able to apply various makeup and hair techniques to achieve the desired look.

Organization

I handle the budget and personnel management of the makeup artist team.

In doing so, I ensure that resources and budget are used effectively and I monitor the team’s quality and working hours.

Additionally, I ensure compliance with safety regulations and hygiene standards for the use of makeup products.

Personnel

Makeup artists and performers must have good personal chemistry. The right team composition enhances the preparation and application of makeup and hair.

MASK DESIGN

From the artistic concept to the final implementation, I create masks and prosthetic pieces, perfectly tailored to the respective requirements.

Hair & Make-up

I design and create makeup and hairstyle designs that emphasize the character’s personality and features and achieve the best possible effect, especially on stage.

Wig Design

With extensive knowledge of styles and implementation methods, I design and create perfectly matched wigs and hairpieces.
